Аннотация: This book is about developing good management practices in production of indigenous chicken ("kuku wa kienyenji" as they are popularly known in Kenya and the Eastern African region) as a strategy to reduce poverty among rural poor people. The book also highlights the participation of the rural poor in the development of these practices. The book is based on information from interaction with a broad range of stakeholders including research from experimentation on-station and on-farm with 200 farmers in 20 villages in three counties, as well as extensive surveys across different regions in Kenya. This provides strong evidence that the prudent utilisation of rural people's local resources and their active involvement in research and development activities is an effective strategy for poverty reduction, improved livelihoods and women's empowerment in rural Africa.
