Аннотация: By the first half of 2006, both the war in Iraq and the poor performance of the administration after Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana brought into sharp focus the fact that the Bush administration simply didn't know how to govern. Mr. Bush remained in permanent campaign mode at a time when a president should be least concerned about elections, the first half of his second term. At the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay of Texas finally ran out of political lives and left in disgrace. Overseas, Iran continued its drive for a nuclear weapon (it has been six months away from having one for a decade now), Lukashenko stole another election in Belarus about which the west did nothing, and the Americans killed Al Qaeda leader Zarqawi. His death had minimal effect on the rapidly escalating Iraqi Civil War.

By the second half of 2006. the American electorate had learned from both the poorly managed war in Iraq and the miserable response of the government to the hurricane damage in the South that the Bush administration was bad at governing. Whether the policies were right or wrong (they were mostly wrong) was irrelevant as the unsatisfactory...

Drawn from the Kensington Review, this volume covers the latter half of 2005, when the City of New Orleans drowned. While America had given the president a pass on the lack of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, the failure of the administration to alleviate the misery of Hurricane Katrina opened many eyes to the incompetence of the government...

2013 г.,  272 стр.,  мягкий переплет
By early 2005, it was clear that the Bush administration had found itself stuck in a war it did not anticipate in Mesopotamia, fighting against an insurgency it did not understand, and unable to turn itself around and march out. There were other important stories at the time: Zimbabwe's descent into economic and political hell, the re-election of...
