Universalization of Primary Education: A Unique Approach.

      Аннотация: The Education Guarantee Scheme (EGS) interventions were started in Indian State of Assam in the year 2003. The scheme of EGS was designed by the Axom Sarva Siksha Abhijan (SSA) Mission within the framework of national scheme. There are number of habitations in Assam where there is no school of any kind. SSA, Assam has made significant progress in establishing EGS centres in those habitations which have no schooling facility within a radius of 1.5 km. In the absence of such centres, majority of these children might not have seen the light of education. A need is felt to know about the status of functioning of such EGS centres in the State of Assam. The present study is carried out with a focus to assess the functioning of these of EGS centres and also to know the learning achievement level of the children studying in such centres. This study may be useful to educational planners and researchers. The findings may be helpful in framing the policies for universalization of primary education.
