Аннотация: This book presents a summary of the major research findings on the factors that constrain girls’ enrolment, performance and achievement in education. It is now universally recognized that girls’ education is a critical vehicle to achieve the development goals of any society. This book was conducted to identify the major multiple interrelated school environments, socioeconomic, socio-cultural and institutional factors that constrain girls’ education in Jigjiga town. Increasing girls’ participation in education is one of the most significant developmental challenges facing the developing countries. The enrolment rate of girls remains lower than that of boys, their drop-out and absenteeism’s rate higher and their achievements and performance is poorer than that of boys. The central objective of this book is to outline and analyze the challenges faced by the girl-child in education. Hence, to attain the objectives, different literatures on factors affecting girls’ education was incisively reviewed. To help bridge the gap between the boys and girls access to education. The book provides an outline of suggestions and recommendations targeted at reducing the gender gap in education.
