Аннотация: Flute Meets Machine is an exploration of the world of music for flute and computer. Electroacoustic Music is music composed for a live performer plus electronic sounds: this exciting genre includes the limitless sound possibilities that the computer provides with the humanness of a live performer. By its nature, the music composed in this genre is cutting edge, daring, and other-worldly. The ability to create new sounds on the computer is incomparable to any other instrument known - a computer can mimic the sounds of a baby crying or a thunderstorm or machinery, and can also create sounds that have never been heard before. It can transform these sounds imperceptibly or suddenly, creating a listening experience found in no other form of music. The presence of a live musician, in this case a flutist, connects the computer world to the more familiar world of a live human performer. The contrasts, and the similarities, between the two are vivid, fascinating and surprising, and never dull or unapproachable. Flute Meets Machine explores the history, the theory, and the performance of the music written for flute and computer-generated sounds.
