Аннотация: 1970 to 2013. In a little over four decades, Oman exemplifies phenomenal progress. The development has been the fruitful transition of a vision whose seeds were sown with the ascendance of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said on the throne. Particularly distinguishing is the ever increasing media scene in Oman. From a single newspaper in 1971 to the present multi-edition daily bilingual press, the presence of homegrown TV network and access to regional Arabic press besides global English media. This book is an attempt to critically analyze the working of the media institutions, platforms and the effects of their contents and practices. The book presents an assortment of research studies which reflect the native perspectives. The book is unique and is first in many ways. It is among the first books to contain studies carried out by the group which is the most frequent user and perhaps the most impacted media consumer section of the Omani society- the youth. Hopefully, this book will become a starting point for many more, exploring the nuances of access, consumption and effects of media on Omani society.
