Аннотация: The issue of learner indiscipline in schools remains topical the world over. Understanding learner indiscipline and its management are critical issues if schools are to be safe places where meaningful learning takes place. An effective curriculum cannot be implemented in an environment of fear, uncertainty and disruption. This book gives a theoretical overview of indiscipline in schools with specific reference to South African schools. In the book the writer looks at policy requirements regarding the treatment of learners in South African schools. The concept discipline is explored and prevalent forms of discipline in schools are explained. Differences between discipline and punishment are interrogated. Some theories of discipline are discussed, showing the strengths and weaknesses of each theory in dealing with learner indiscipline. The book also handles the issue of proactive approaches to the management of indiscipline in schools. Preventive approaches that teach self-discipline are encouraged as opposed to punishment-based disciplinary measures.
