Аннотация: Patients who are satisfying the study criteria were selected and screened. Clinical information relevant for the study was collected from the patients, healthcare professionals, necessary records as well as the patient’s attenders. Then the patients were enrolled in group 1 or in group 2 as per randomization chart generated by allocation software, version 2. The antiasthmatic drugs prescribed till date were stopped and the patients were asked to take salbutamol inhaler whenever necessary for a 7 days (run – in period) prior to the study. Patients were educated and counseled about the proper usage of inhalers. The patients who were in group 1 were given theophylline twice daily whereas group 2 was given with theophylline and oral corticosteroid. After one month treatment a washout period of 7 days was given to both the groups then the treatment crossover was done between the groups. The oxygen saturation and asthma severity were assessed using pulse oximetry and spirometry respectively.
