J. Nehru’s theoretical and practical endeavors. Shaping the destiny of the Indian statehood 1947-1964

      Аннотация: The Republic of India is the biggest democracy in the world, which from the first instance of India’s independence and for more than 16 consecutive years was exclusively guided by Jawaharlal Nehru. The first Prime Minister of independent India was not only a staunch nationalist catapulted by his father M. Nehru and ‘godfather’ M.K. Gandhi onto the heights of authority but also the rarest and all but unique phenomenon in the history of humankind. He possessed such qualities as true humanism, excellent education, intelligence, respect for other cultures, creativity, flexibility, self-sacrifice, responsibility, political will and huge political power, which he managed to secure by breaching neither the universal democratic nor the traditional norms. The unity of theoretical and practical components in Nehru’s opulent political legacy put him in line with other epoch-breaking reformers. Despite some theoretical faults and miscalculations, J. Nehru presents a new type of political leadership that joins the scientific and philanthropic attitudes with the active democratic position. Be that is it may, the book invites to challenge and in a great measure reevaluates Nehru’s legacy.
