      Аннотация: The book titled "A Remote Mystery with Haphazard Clues": Memory as the Diasporic Condition in the Fiction of Jhumpa Lahiri" by Baidehi Mukherjee is a study in the elements of Memory, which is a vital trope in diaspora. All the four best-selling and prize winning books by Jhumpa Lahiri have been critically evaluated to locate the diasporic space as synonymous with the inhabitation in a lost world. The essence of diaspora is not felt very simply by Jhumpa Lahiri herself, considering the pressures of acculturation. The presence of this pressure is obvious in her fictional characters as well. Memory is the only vital and constant agent in diaspora, which affects the thought processes of the immigrants. Generation gap plays a major role in this attitude towards memory, as different generations react and fall back on the past events differently. The two novels and two story collections are read and interpreted to bring out the symbolic essence of diaspora and globalization, apparently blurred like palimpsest. The book is an attempt to contribute towards research in the domains of Postcolonial thought and South-Asian Diaspora Studies.
