Аннотация: Thus, the capacity of agriculture to providing employment to growing workforce becomes limited because extension of land area was not possible and cropping intensity and productivity reached to a level which is not possible to go further. In the situation neither agricultural nor organized industrial sector are in position to provide further employment. The migration of people in search of job opportunities from rural to urban areas, in no way, can be a solution because of limited urban infrastructure facilities. In the situation rural non-farm sector is provide silver lining which offers tremendous scope of providing gainful employment to growing population with comparably low caste and low level of skill. As a result, the impetus for achieving sustained development in rural areas has to pivot around expanding the base of non-farm activities. If such a comprehensive planning approach can be evolved it could provide the solution to the problems of rural areas such as poverty, unemployment and out-migration of the rural work force. The significance of the non-farm sector is even more pronounced in the agriculturally backward and low productivity regions that is North Coastal Andhra.
