Аннотация: This is first major comprehensive study of Romanian legislators. It uses the public CVs of all the members of the two chambers of the Romanian Parliament since the first legislative elections of May 1990 and up to 2003. The novelty of the work is, however, the use of a survey of Romanian legislators that probed into critical issues such as circumstances of joining politics, relative importance of various personal assets (occupational profile, previous experience in public service, incumbency etc.), political sponsors, career ambitions, but also internal party democracy and mechanisms of selection in all the mainstream Romanian political parties. The book brings back to attention the rich body of scholarly work dedicated to the study of political elites in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s that is nowadays almost forgotten. This pioneering work has opened the field to similar and more complex studies of political elites in Romania. This study was hailed by internationally-renowned specialists such as Vladimir Tismaneanu, Heinrich Best and Zdenka Mansfeldova.
