The ABC of Lexicography.

      Аннотация: The book a step-by-step introduction to the art and craft of dictionary-making from the point of view of a lexicographer and dictionary user: what types of dictionaries there are, who uses dictionaries and what users look up, what a dictionary consists of, what are the elements of the word-list, which elements a dictionary entry has, what types of specialized dictionaries there are, what are terminological dictionaries and how corpora are used in lexicography. It mostly refers to monolingual learner’s dictionaries and gives a full account of the treatment of different types of information found in these as well as other dictionaries. Specialized and terminological dictionaries are described systematically in individual chapters. The book also discusses the importance of corpora as tools used in the compilation of dictionaries. It is a compelling reading for all those interested in learning how dictionaries are made and what types of information a user can derive from them.
