Аннотация: Sericulture is viewed as one of the promising agricultural enterprises suitable for rural development. Acquisition of knowledge, skills and experience in sericulture operations is however a prerequisite for sustainable and profitable sericulture. It is against this background that this book was compiled. The book is presented in six chapters with first chapter providing an overview of global silk industry and sericulture initiatives in Rwanda. Subsequent chapters focus on mulberry cultivation and maintenance, mulberry diseases, construction of rearing houses, recurring and nonrecurring materials and equipment. An extensive coverage is provided on rearing techniques, disinfection methods, and environmental conditions critical during silkworm rearing plus, common silkworm diseases and options for their management. The book has a number of photographs and drawn illustrations to enhance readers’ interest, appreciation and understanding. Although the book is based on sericulture experiences in Rwanda, the information provided is indeed relevant to wider audience especially among developing nations with similar socio-economic settings.
