Evaluation of water quality for Irrigation in Rugeramigozi (Rwanda).

      Аннотация: This research conducted in Rugeramigozi Marshland in Muhanga District, Southern province, in Rwanda had a general objective to evaluate the suitability of water for irrigation in Rugeramigozi Marshland. In order to achieve our objective the following parameters were analyzed in laboratories of University of Rwanda: pH,EC,TDS,Na+,Ca2+,Mg2+,SAR,CO32-,HCO3-,NO3-,Cl-, Heavy metals Results from laboratory show that the water quality is excellent according to chemical characteristics but the concentration of Mn, Fe, Cu, Cr are above the standards proposed by (Ayers, 1985). As conclusion the water of Rugeramigozi dam is suitable for irrigation based on water chemical and physical properties but some measures must be taken into consideration in order to prevent the continuous increase of heavy metals because if the concentration of heavy metals continue to increase the quality of water will decrease and it will affect not only the yield rice yield but also the health of the consumers of the rice from that marshland As recommendation evaluation of biological characteristics is needed ,prevention of soil erosion around the marshland, waste management from surrounding areas and environment
