Аннотация: A perusal of the novels of Toni Morrison is a unique experience for the sheer reason of the geographical distance between America and India. Someone has rightly said, “Half the world does not know how the other half lives”. The reality of Afro Americans can only be felt superficially through newspaper accounts .A deliberate effort to dig up the well springs of this vast deluge reveals ‘many a gem of purest ray serene’ ,as also the force of the current which is proving the words of DuBois , “The problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color –line.” Morrison has shown awareness of this fact in all her works. Reading her novels is to gain intimate knowledge about the blacks of America not only at present, but to get acquainted with the very genes which determine the peculiar characteristics of this ethnic group. The nomenclature has to change significantly because of the hybrid culture modes of belief and action followed by Afro –Americans .Black Americans now are an integral part of the American culture, which is getting stronger and stronger in the practice of the statement, “We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men are created equal."
