Аннотация: Role of Elected Women in PRIs: Nilakkottai Panchayat Union-A study is conducted with the sample of 80 elected women leaders from Village Panchayats and Nilakkottai Panchayat union which is located in Dindigul District of Tamilnadu, India. The study elaborates on historical background of PRIs and political participation of women in India. An interview schedule was adopted to collect primary data from the respondents. The analysis revealed that the awareness and Constitutional knowledge of women was not satisfactory. The Participation of women in Gram Panchayat is limited to remain as voters. Some of the elected women leaders’ unaware about the functioning of gram Panchayats. The study makes an attempt to know about various provisions given in the 73rd Constitution amendment Act, 1993 as well as to study the effectiveness of the elected women leaders at grassroots level.The study is useful to all the elected women leaders to understand the concept, provisions, role and responsibilities in PRIs and for the personnel who are working at Village Administrative Office and Taluk Office in Nilakkottai Panchayat Union.
