Аннотация: Diabetes became very common and destructive disease in our society, affects adults and children . Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough, or does not respond properly to insulin, a hormone produced in the pancreas keeps blood sugar in normal range. This is a pilot comparative quantitative study conducted in Ribat University Hospital – diabetic patient’s clinic and Renal Transplant Hospital during the period from October 2010 to April 2012, for patients who suffer from diabetes no less than six months.. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of diabetes on the kidneys using ultrasonography. The female patients were more than males in the sample (169 – 76, 63% and 37%, respectively). The study proved that diabetic patients were subject to multiple changes in abdominal organs that can be diagnosed by ultrasound (39%) and this supports the use of ultrasound in diabetic treatment units. The study recommended using ultrasonography routinely in the treatment of diabetes disease units and follow up patients with diabetes and also that the research could constitute a base for further research in this field
