Аннотация: This book critically examines the debate on the democratization of politics from the historical experience of the African states. Africa has witnessed socio-economic and political transitions from a single party system to a multi-party system towards good governance and democracy. While democracy is an ideal to be cherished, it is not often supported by anti-democracy political leaders because it is often considered as alien on the African political landscape. The concept of democratization of politics has been contested by some critics that there can be no meaningful democratization of politics in the midst of diverse inequalities across Africa.Africa remains ravaged by poverty and underdevelopment yet the supporters of democracy argues that it is the only way to enhance democratic tenets that can see Africa move from stagnation to political prosperity. The debate on the democratization of politics continues to take a centre stage in the governance structure so as transform Africa politically and economically. This gives an understanding that democracy and development are two sides of the same coin. However, the problem is that Africa is not politically and economically independent.
