Аннотация: Contract workers are skilled workers; they are eligible and are involved in the core activities of any industry, however, they do not get the same monetary and social privileges of a regular worker. Unionization is often considered a hindrance in the economic growth of a country, which is a misconception but it is the only way to have better employer-employee relations and to put a check on any form of violations of the rights of workers. And therefore the right to form a trade union or join any existing union should not be denied simply due to the reason that he is hired by a company through a contractor for a certain period of time. Maruti Suzuki is one of India's biggest automobile manufacturers. The HR policies of the company in India lead to the growth of informal workers in a formal manufacturing unit that lead to one of the biggest labour struggles in the country in recent times. The book explores the causes of the labour distress and draws out the events that lead to an important fight by workers to join a trade union which is a basic human right.
