      Аннотация: This book produces groundbreaking, and the first of its kind, empirical data and research on the psychological impact of Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON) on the entire family system. Its overarching goal is to examine how unaffected carriers of this rare genetic mitochondrial disease that classically results in complete central vision loss and legal blindness experience feelings of depression, anxiety, and guilt ,and whether spirituality , religious beliefs, or social support from family, friends, and a significant other serve and protective factors in the process of coping. This text stresses the need for integrated care in the treatment of physical health conditions and mental health concerns, as many individuals and families are in need of additional support, direction, and empathy after a diagnosis is made.
