The Volatile South Caucasus.

      Аннотация: South Caucasus has always been important region because of its nonstrategic location, but nowadays in the era of “energy game“, it has gained the greatest international significance and has been bounded in the center of international interest. Every single region, rich with the hydrocarbons and having potential of becoming energy supplier, is especially valuable for energy dependent states. Moreover, the Russian invasion of the Georgia in August 2008 and recent flared up fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Naghorno-Karabakh completely changed the security architecture in the region. Thus, created a new strategic situation. For that reasons, South Caucasus has become the area of diverse interests and the involvement of internal and external players, including international organizations, have increased in regional politics. One of the main determinant why the region gained vital importance also is US special interests in “Global War on Terror”, the coordinated, collective and global efforts against violence which has developed after 9/11 unfortunate events. Furthermore, the region is quite close to Middle East, Afghanistan and Iran.
