Аннотация: Philosophy ofdevelopment poses lots of questions and challenges in the sphere of development. Some of the most significant being the “why” and “how” of the differing trajectories and rates of development of societies. The answers to these questions and issues have contributed to the generation of diverse philosophies and theories of development. This book entitled: Reason in Development:Towards a Rationalist Theory of Development,is an attempt to give a contemporary answer to this age long issue. Further, it is a significant contribution to the ‘why’and‘how’ of philosophy of development itself as an area of study. The author accepts the apparent difference in the rate and trajectories of development of societies and then goes on to seek explanations for them. What in human nature and reality generally account for the different patterns of development amongst societies? Are the different rates of development permanent features of our social world? How do we characterize these differences and evaluate them? This work argues that the various theories of development are flawed because they are either wholly internalist or externalist, but development is essentially internalist – externalist
