Аннотация: This book examines the causes of communal conflicts, stages of conflicts and the effects of these conflicts on society. Despite the fact that communal conflicts are largely preventable, attention is yet to be directed towards communal conflicts preventive measures; hence societies are experiencing increase in communal conflicts. This book outlines the major effects of communal conflicts which include retardation of development, insecurity, loss of lives and property, low productivity, disunity and displacement of people. Traditional Authorities need to be resuscitated by government and policy makers since they are in better position in addressing such issues than resorting to the law courts. It evidenced that mature democracies such as the United Kingdom, Netherlands and others are all operating constitutional monarchies and therefore the traditional authority and modern state should coexist to manage communal conflicts. The book recommends, among others, that the government must introduce curricula of peace-education in schools and universities, which will restructure the mindset of the people and instill the discourse of peace from early intellectual development.
