Аннотация: In Malaysia, polytechnics are established to produce trained manpower at the semi-professional level in various engineering industries as well as in commerce. By 2005 the relative participation rate in technical vocational education had increase about 33 per cent with a total enrolment of 73,834(2005) from 64,382(2004).The number is increasing and to ensure efficient institutional management and continual improvement at the polytechnic levels, the Polytechnics Development component under the World Bank Education Quality Improvement Project was established among others to expand the annual full-time training capacity of the polytechnic system by establishing about 8000 additional training places; to upgrade the quality and availability of staff through recruitment and training of new and existing polytechnic staff; to increase efficiency of the polytechnic systems through the provision of a wider scope of services, increase in the quality service delivery, better capacity utilization and the lowering of unit costs as well as to promote a more decentralised polytechnics management and financing system.
