Аннотация: Prosopis africana is a perennial leguminous tree of the subfamily Mimosoidae, found in Africa of whose various parts have been reported as a nutraceutical, therapeutic agent, and gum as a bioadhesive material for pharmaceutical preparations. Traditional claim on use of P. africana gum states its application in water purification. Hence, it was thought to separate the component from Prosopis seeds responsible for water purification and check its drug delivery applications. To explore P. africana seed gum as drug release retardant, Different categories of drugs (charge basis) were compacted with it and compared with different polymers like xanthan gum (XG), hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC-K100M), and chitosan (CP). The Present book covers the micromeretic properties of gum, comparison of compacts of drugs with P. africana and other polymers and their evaluation for extended release application. P. africana seed gum can be a very good addition to the plethora of existing natural polymers used in controlled drug delivery, and it will be plausibly economical concern for pharmaceutical industries to use this polymer.
