Аннотация: In the later part of the 19th century, the growing trend has been to reconstruct the history of India by coordinating the analytical and synthetic histories. For this, there has been ever-growing stress on micro level study, which emphasizes intensive regional and local historical studies. The British period, i.e. 1803-1947 was as significant as it was distinct, not only for the national history of India, but also for any regional or local history. For the Orissa’s Garjat, this was a period of transition from medieval and feudal stage to the modern phase during which the princely Orissa prepared herself to welcome the modern times. This has encouraged to prepare this volume on a formal princely state like Nayagarh to explore the history of the State of Nayagarh during British rule in Orissa, which formed an integral part of the Orissa’s Garjat (princely states) rule, in addition to highlighting its socio-economic and cultural aspects. This book will be useful for researchers, academics and students, who are working on Orissa history.
