Аннотация: Sustainability has acquired the endless free play of meanings. Sustainability may be treated as a euphemism and euphuism for survival of human species. Sustainability is an enlightened self-interest, as opposed to destructive self-interest, where self-interest is confined to survival, which refers to the perpetuation of life in the tiny little islet of life amid the boundless ocean of lifelessness over the eons. By any criterion, social sustainability and ecological sustainability are interdependent, neither independent, nor dependent at the cost of other. The Stoic ethical precept says that live according to nature. Unfortunately, humanized nature has been substituted for natural nature. Tempestuous transformation of nature in negative sense has created unsustainability. Civilized man had declared war against his own environment and the battle was raging on all continents, gradually spreading to these distant islands. In fighting nature, man can win every battle except the last. If he should win that too, he will perish like an embryo cutting its own umbilical cord. The secret of human existence is that man must not simply live, but must discover why he should live.
