Аннотация: Most countries in the world experience challenges in proper and effective solid waste management. These challenges range from reducing generation of solid waste change of consumption habits, separation of the wastes, collection, treatment, transport, recycle, reuse and proper disposal of the solid waste. Despite of the multiplicity of activities undertaken by county government of Nairobi in SWM, the results are doubtful since the city is garbage littered. Therefore the study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of SWM processes in Nairobi County. As established by the findings, the county government needs to focus on people centered/in-ward-looking formulation of environmental policies as well as their implementation since the out-ward looking/top down approach development policies have caused more harm than good to both the Kenyan environment and its citizens. There is need to develop a well coordinated public-private partnerships with an active oversights and control of wastes from the point of generation to the point of final disposal, so as to minimize the costs associated with clean-up of the estates over a long period of time.
