Introduction to Child Abuse, Rights and Protection. A Guide for Child Protection Duty Bearers

      Аннотация: This is an introductory handbook particularly meant for different child protection duty bearers who include parents, family siblings, relatives, community child protection committee members, School teachers, Police officers, Health workers, Social Welfare officers, Civil Society Groups and so on. The handbook is organized into four (4) related chapters; with the child being the central focus. The first Chapter introduces you to ‘child abuse’ and basically talks about the different forms of violence against children including physical and sexual abuse. The second Chapter introduces you to ‘children’s rights’ and attempts to express them as an integral component of human rights. The third Chapter introduces you to ‘child protection’ mechanisms including how protective environments may be created for children. The fourth; which is the last Chapter, introduces you to the ‘counselling of children in need’ and includes individual, group and institutional counselling of needy children. The handbook is not a complete manual on child abuse, rights and protection but attempts to give you the reader or student; an introductory appreciation of the study field.
