Pleasure In Dark-themed Novel Entitled The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas.

      Аннотация: Dark themes has been one of the most controversial yet important topics in children’s literature. There are many literary works in regards to children which contain the most recent issues about dark themes. Related themes such as death, war, illness, and separation has accompanied children to began their journey. In fact, many children are exposed to terrible things such as death and war. Hence, the death and separation will naturally faced by the children sooner or later. Thus, having related reading material is a must for children. The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas by John Boynes is one of prominent works which brought dark themes and sensitive history issues to come closer to children’s perspective. The friendship of Jewish boy and the son of NAZI commander is beautifully presented in the story to reveal the children’s innocence. The pure friendship among the main characters despite their hardship to remain friends is intriguing to be brought to children. Moreover, the historical background of the story is still relatable to todays condition related to war and conflict, but more importantly, children are able to learn about the holocaust.
