Аннотация: Prevention and control of breast cancer becomes indispensible for the society. Examination of genetic marker may be of value in identification of population at risk. Genetic predisposition is like a seed, under favorable conditions the seed will grow, without these conditions it will remain dormant. Prevention and control of breast carcinoma through understanding the genetic base of dermatoglyphics and the role of hormone based life events in breast cancer is the scope of the study. The present study analyses the effectiveness of a non-invasive, anatomical marker ‘Dermatoglyphics’- a screening procedure, and the influence of hormone based life events – a factor causing epigenetic alteration that induces carcinogenesis. The hypothesis of the present study is to achieve significant association between hand dermal ridge patterns and the DNA repair genetic variants in breast cancer risk and the determination on role of hormone based life events. The study proceeded by determining its association with variants in DNA repair genetic pathways, that helps to isolate the high risk population for breast cancer there by aiding in prevention and control.
