Policies, History and Tradition of Adult Education in Nigeria.

      Аннотация: The field of adult education in Nigeria witnessed series of formulation and implementation of varieties of policies in the form of edicts, laws, codes, decree ordinances etc. between 1963 and 1999, most especially as a result of military take-over of power which started in 1966 and finished on May 1999. It should be noted that though the primary responsibility of the military men was to defend the nation against external attacks they decided to involve in politics and successfully managed the educational and other aspects of the economy for eight times by taking over forcefully from one civilian government or another. It is therefore the major preoccupation of this paper to look into the historical background of the military interventions in politics, analyze the scope and objectives of adult education, analyze the policies in adult education within the period and examine the effect of the military interventions on adult education policy formulation and implementation in Nigeria.
