The Semantic Categorization of Metaphor in the Transfer Schema. Theoretical Premises and Empirical Findings

      Аннотация: One of the most hotly debated topics in linguistics has always been the relationship between language and mind. The publication of some fundamental works by G. Lakoff, M. Johnson, R. Gibbs and other scholars gave rise to cognitive paradigm in linguistics which includes studies into language semantics and a new approach to figurative language. The contemporary explorations of the cognitive framework may contribute to the insight of mind and the principles governing communication. They may also be applied to foreign language teaching especially in multinational environment. This book is an attempt to describe the latest developments in language semantics and cognitive linguistics as well as to present the author's own empirical investigations in this field. This book will be useful to those who start studies in cognitive science and to all those who are interesred in linguistics.
