The book was written due to challenges affecting East Africa’s trade and economic competitiveness attributed to high transportation costs, congested sea ports and congested transportation corridors. The book is composed of seven chapters including; the background, literature review with focus on the dry port and extended gateways concept and integrated logistics, dry ports in East Africa, Quality evaluation of dry ports in East Africa using Delphi method, Extended gateways model for East Africa and lastly, a methodology for dry port planning to aid dry port development and Management.
