The book offers readers direct, simple and significant aspects of the history of and main events in the region. It also guides readers, researchers, explorers, historians, as well as academics to numerous sources of literature on Northern Nigeria. It showcases the various heritages, customs, traditions, economic, geo-political, religious backgrounds and circumstances that make the region most strategic and significant in the politics, unity, continuity and development of the one and united Nigerian state. It is intended to make issues, circumstances, actions and reactions related to the North, clearly understood, for those have largely been determined by self and situational identities, which the region has found itself before, during and after the amalgamation of various areas that made up one and united Nigeria. The reader is left to do justice to the North in respect of these self and situational identities.
