Аннотация: This book explores the impact of oil producing activities on the socioeconomic well-being of the oil-bearing communities of the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. As a product of rigorous research work, it unveils the extent of devastation suffered by the oil producing communities, with the weakness found to be embedded in the implementation of the prevalent Property Right Regime in Nigeria. The aftermath of this has been the long-driven crises in the region. As a way out of the problem therefore, the Brazilian Natural Resource Management and Control model, where the proceeds accruing from oil production are to be allowed to trickle down to all the stakeholders in the process has been recommended for adoption. This, is viewed as a way of engendering a new system of committed and concerned key players in harmonious operation leading to beneficial natural resource exploration/exploitation and the maintenance of a healthy environment. The most intriguing however, is the fact that the Brazilian Model draws from similar Land Use Act like Nigeria.
