Аннотация: This study was based on a conceptual framework that approached peacebuilding from five principles advanced by Neufeldt and which are, that peacebuilding needs to be comprehensive, interdependent, sustainable, strategic and aligned to an infrastructure. Indigenous communication was analysed according to four dimensions namely: behaviour change, persuasion routes, symbolic communication and interpretation of meaning. The study concluded that Agikuyu rites of passage influenced Agikuyu communication for promoting a culture of peace; that the family was the focus of all Agikuyu indigenous communication and that there was the need to restore the family cohesiveness if the Agikuyu were to sustain their internal peace. The study recommended that the Agikuyu Council of Elders urgently facilitates the formation of a Foundation to spearhead rejuvenation of the Agikuyu family institution; that Mother-tongue be strengthened in the primary school curriculum in the region, as per government policy and cultural experts be facilitated by County Governments in the region to assist in the production of learning material which can infuse family values.
