Magical tablet for treating Diabetes & Hypertension. Sustained release bilayer tablet of Miglitol and Valsartan for treatment of Diabetes and Hypertension

      Аннотация: Formulation and in vitro evaluation of bilayer tablets of miglitol and valsartan reduces the hypertension and hyperglycemia. Bilayer tablets comprising of immediate release layer (valsartan) and a sustained release layer (miglitol) were formulated using direct compression method by employing croscarmellose sodium as super disintegrant and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC), a hydrophilic matrix forming agent, were used as rate controlling polymers. The formulations were evaluated for different physiochemical properties like hardness, thickness, weight variation, friability, uniformity of drug content and in vitro drug release studies. In vitro drug release was carried out using USP type II at 50 rpm in 900 ml of acidic dissolution medium (pH 1.2) for 2 hours, followed by 900 ml alkaline dissolution medium (pH 7.4) up to 6 hours. Kinetic models were applied to dissolution profiles to determine the drug release. Two months of stability study were carried out at 30 ± 2°C / 65 ± 5% RH for all formulations. The results showed that there were no significant changes in physicochemical parameters and in vitro drug release.
