Аннотация: This book provides a detailed information about the importance of lentic water bodies. It highlights the role played by these natural resources in maintaining the ecological balance on the surface of earth. Due to anthropogenic pressure and unsustainable development, these fragile ecosystems have become the dump sites of various toxic pollutants like chemical fertilizer residues, heavy metals, pesticides and other xenobiotic agrochemicals. This book provides a kind of awareness regarding the current status of these urban lakes and recommends some of the important strategies for their management and safeguard. This book also throughs light on the mineral status of agricultural soils in two geographically different districts of Kashmir so as to understand the change in soil quality due to unsustainable agricultural practices. This book is a useful tool for students and scholars to understand the current status of some culturally important water bodies in Himalayan range and their future perspectives.
