Аннотация: The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) was established in December 2006 with an aim to transform the Africa's Great Lakes region from a space of wars into a space of sustainable peace, security and development. However, ten years after ICGLR's member states have signed the Pact on Security, Stability and Development, peace and security have remained fragile. Against this backdrop, this book assesses the role of this regional organization in promoting sustainable peace and security. It argues that the ICGLR has a very well-designed peace and security architecture. However, it is still facing several challenges which undermine its capacity to achieve its vision, aims and objectives. These include the weakness of states' institutions; the lack of political will of some Heads of State and Government; the multiple membership of ICGLR's member states to several regional organizations; lack of coercive measures to enforce the implementation of the Pact; the persistence of mistrust between member states and; the double standard of the international community in addressing peace and security issues in the Great Lakes region.
