Аннотация: This book highlights the various challenges confronted by Hindu and Muslim women of India. Indian women, since the ancient times, were considered to be the most superior ones. However, in the medieval period, they gradually lost their superiority and was confined within the four walls of orthodoxy, taboos, superstitions and exploitation. In the preceding fifty years, women empowerment in India was rapid with both governmental and non governmental support. Education has been provided with the greatest priority under various campaigns. In India, states like West Bengal has come up with various initiatives, like Kanyashree Prokolpo for advancement in the education of a girl child. With the passage of time, more and more women, are getting themselves involved in employment, thus creating a challenge to their male counterparts. The trend is different for Hindus than that of the Muslim women. Through this book an initiative is taken for a comparative analysis of Hindu and Muslim women, on the basis of Work participation and Educational status, with special reference to North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India.
