Аннотация: Research findings from the reviewed literature have shown that proficiency of calculators improves instruction that would serve the student better than traditional instruction (without calculators), students’ computational skills, students’ problem solving skills and attitudes toward mathematics. Therefore, it is important to have an understanding on how calculators can improve Botswana J.C. students’ conceptual understanding, problem- solving techniques and also develop a positive attitude towards learning and understanding mathematics using calculators. The results of this study will also provide some information on the attitudes of teachers in influencing the use of calculators in a classroom. In addition the results will provide some information to initiate curriculum designers, policy makers, Department of Teacher Training and Development, and mathematics educators to conduct a similar study on a larger sample in order to come up with appropriate strategies that will enable them to conduct workshops intended to upgrade teachers on how to use calculators as a medium for the development of transferable problem-solving strategies.
