UniLife. A Context Aware Prototype App for University Students and Lecturers

      Аннотация: With the increasing mobility and technology, pervasive computing is taking over the world. This transition from traditional desktop computing to pervasive computing has led to a greater demand in context aware computing systems. People can schedule their day to day tasks using mobile devices and reminders to ensure they don’t miss out on something important. This study shows how context awareness can change a student or a lecturer’s life at Heriot Watt University using mobile phones on a daily basis. UniLife, an android prototype application is developed that would be useful for both students as well as lecturers in keeping track of their upcoming classes. Along with outdoor positioning, UniLife allows users to navigate around the premises of Heriot Watt where GPS does not function. It also senses the current location of the user inside the building. The development of this app is to test the effectiveness and the ease it brings in a student’s and a lecturer’s life at a large university premises with the concept of context awareness. The application was tested by a group of students and lecturers. The study then determines the effectiveness of using a context aware mobile app.
