Аннотация: Much has been written in the last years about the EU-Russia relations and how energy security issues fit in this equation, especially in a troubled geopolitical landscape like Eastern Europe and the Black Sea Region (BSR). Due to its strategic location, the BSR plays one of the most important parts in this ‘Great Energy Opera’ as it became the ‘buffer zone’ for the most important actors in the world – EU, US and Russia – as far as energy and policymaking are concerned. This paper explores how the energy security issue has developed over time in the EU, focusing on Russia’s involvement in the matter, and how the BSR comes into play in this power game. Analyzing several articles, ideas, and policies on the matter we will attempt to figure out the EU’s position, the manner in which it deals with its strong dependency on Russian supply and its initiatives meant to change the situation with regard to energy security.
