Role of Professional Associations in the Development of LIS Profession.

      Аннотация: This is a research study which discusses about the Role of Professional Associations in the Development of Library & Information Science in India. It covers the impact of the programmes organised by six major national level associations (Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres (IASLIC), Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS), Indian Library Association (ILA), Management Libraries Network (MANLIBNET), Society for the Advancement of Library and Information Science (SALIS), and Society for Information Science (SIS) on LIS profession and LIS research. Further the study reflects on the work of the said associations and their effect on member?s career and professional development. The study also investigates the satisfaction level of members in membership procedure, fee, election / voting procedure, association activities, communication and response received from associations and professionalism as well as professional skills, and expected programmes by members from the associations on LIS cutting edge technologies, purpose of participation in PD and research activities etc.
