Аннотация: Lok Adalat can be traced back to the ancient Vedic times. Since ancient times 'Panchayats' have been the traditional forums for resolving disputes in India. The book is emphasizing on the effectiveness and evaluation of Alternative Disputes Resolution System (Lok Adalat) in the judiciary system. Lok Adalat settles cases on the basis of mutual consent between parties. The basic idea behind establishment of Lok Adalats is the speedy clearance of pending cases and to reduce the cost of litigation. The study found that there is positive and significant relationship between the number of Lok Adalats organized and cases solved in Rajasthan State. Majority of the cases solved are related to issues arising from family disputes, cases of civil nature, criminal cases, motor accident cases which found positive and significant relationship. However at the same time the results related to banking, land and revenue and other cases showed a negative relationship between number of Lok Adalats organized and cases. It is thus concluded that overall Lok Adalats are functioning effectively and towards positive direction in solving cases in Rajasthan.
