Аннотация: This book compares impacts of land use conversion on soil organic carbon and total nitrogen stocks in communal rangeland, exclosure and cultivated land in Borana rangeland, southern Ethiopia as implications for devising an appropriate and sustainable land use/management. The overall implication is that communal/open grazing land and continuous cultivation in the rangeland resulted in an increase in bulk density and a decrease in soil organic carbon and total nitrogen (stock and content) and it was also a cause for soil pH and soil moisture losses. Therefore, the rangeland exposed to overgrazing and continuous cultivation has to be protected from overgrazing to protect soil organic carbon and total nitrogen stocks for its long term benefit and climate change mitigation.

Land cover land use change and soil organic carbon under climate variability in the semi-arid West African Sahel (1960-2050)..
1905 г.,  200 стр.,  мягкий переплет
Land Cover Land Use (LCLU) change affects land surface processes recognized to influence climate change at local, national and global levels. Soil organic carbon is a key component for the functioning of agro-ecosystems and has a direct effect on the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the soil. The capacity to model and project...

Long term experiments are providing the best practical approximation to test of sustainability. Long term monitoring allows both the identification of current changes in the soil and prediction of future changes. Hence, a study was carried out at the vegetable research farm, Department of Vegetable Crops, CCS HAU, Hisar in which the effects of...

Soil Organic Carbon Mapping Using Hyperspectral Remote Sensing and ANN. .
2017 г.,  60 стр.,  мягкий переплет
Soil organic carbon (SOC) is an important and reliable indicator of soil quality. In this study, soil spectra were characterized and analyzed to predict the spatial SOC content, using multivariate predictive modeling technique-artificial neural network (ANN). EO1-Hyperion (400 - 2500 nm) hyper-spectral image, field and laboratory scale data sets...

Effect of soil organic carbon on yield of cabbage and soil properties. .
2015 г.,  196 стр.,  мягкий переплет
Losses in the organic matter content of soils during the last 100 years have been substantial, which is associated with changing land use patterns. The process of cultivation of native soils is nearly always associated with loss of organic carbon, as previously protected organic matter is oxidized following exposure to the atmosphere. These losses...

Land use Change and Slope Positions affect Soil Organic Carbon. Kitabi Watershed, South Rwanda.
2015 г.,  104 стр.,  мягкий переплет
Changing land use and slope positions have a considerable influence on soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil fertility. We investigated soil organic carbon stocks in annual crops, community tea and factory tea along three slope positions:up slope, middle slope and down slope. It was found that soil organic carbon stocks are higher in factory tea,...

In the context of organic farming, dairy farm waste plays a vital role in sequestering organic carbon in the agricultural soils and an important media for fodder production, hence field experiments were carried to study different manure treatment techniques (vermicompost, conventional farmers practice, enriched farmyard manure and improved...

2014 г.,  156 стр.,  мягкий переплет
This study investigates the carbon storage potential within conventional farming and the importance of land use history, when interpreting the soil’s carbon equilibrium in a case study at a farm in Upper Austria. It shows that the investigated soils have not reached their equilibrium after being disturbed. There is a potential for storing more...
