Аннотация: “The biggest economy in Africa”. Shadow or distorted pricing on the Nigerian economy particularly the oil sector, there are multiple negative effect of incessant increase in the price of oil products on the economy. This is because whatever happens to the oil sector affects all other sectors of the economy and by implication, it affects the macro-economic policies of the country. To be precise, the persistent price increase in petroleum products especially diesel oil in the name of deregulation of the oil sector of the economy, consistently affects its demand and supply levels and the resultant hike in costs of all operational and associated activities in manufacturing subsector. The study examined the economic rationality behind deregulation policy in respect to price deregulation of petroleum products in Nigeria, particularly the effect of price deregulation of diesel oil on the productivity of listed manufacturing firms in Nigeria. The study will be of immense importance and value to Nigerian government especially the NNPC using it as a strategic guide in managing the downstream oil sector activities in Nigeria.
