      Аннотация: According to World Health Organisation estimation, there are about 12 lakh cancer patients in the country and every year two lakh people are attacked by cancer and 1.5 lakh people die of the disease. Cancer will account for 12.7 per cent of the country’s total deaths by 2030 if the current trends of the incidence of the disease continue as the national strategy to combat the deadly but preventable and curable disease is yet to be put into practice, experts said. Against this backdrop, the government adopted the National Cancer Control Strategy and Plan of Action for 2009-2015 in 2008. Oncologists, however, do not see any headway in the implementation of this public health programme designed to reduce the number of cancer cases and deaths and improve quality of life of cancer patients.The programme focuses on systematic and equitable implementation of evidence-based strategies for cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment and palliation making the best use of available resources.
